Shimla (Kameshwar Sharma): The Himachal Cherry and Plum Export to Oman has created a historic milestone for the state’s horticulture sector. For the first time, fresh cherries and plums from Himachal Pradesh successfully reached Oman, opening new international market opportunities for local growers.
Earlier, Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi flagged off the first export consignment, which included 400 kilograms of fresh cherries and 400 kilograms of fresh plums.
Oman consumers appreciate Himachal fruits
After the shipment arrived in Muscat, the Embassy of India in Oman launched a promotional campaign to showcase the fruits. Moreover, retailers displayed the cherries and plums prominently in leading stores across Oman.
Consumers appreciated the fruits for their superior quality, freshness, and taste. As a result, the products received encouraging responses from buyers, strengthening the prospects of future exports.
Government support boosts horticulture exports
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said the successful Himachal Cherry and Plum Export to Oman reflects the state’s growing focus on expanding horticulture exports.
Furthermore, he stated that the government continues to prioritize the horticulture sector by helping farmers access profitable international markets. The Horticulture Department also played an active role in ensuring the export process remained smooth and efficient.
APEDA ensures quality export standards
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) Regional Office in Chandigarh coordinated closely with farmers, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), cooperative societies, exporters, HPMC, and various government departments.
In addition, all stakeholders ensured strict compliance with international quality standards, grading, packaging, and phytosanitary requirements. Consequently, the export consignment successfully met global market standards.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu congratulated the Horticulture Department and the state’s fruit growers for achieving this milestone.
According to him, the dedication of growers and departmental officials has started producing positive results. Moreover, he said the successful export has opened the doors to high-value international markets for Himachal’s naturally premium fruits.
