The weather during March surprised residents across Punjab with sudden changes, ranging from intense heat pushing temperatures above 30°C to unexpected rainfall bringing back cooler conditions. With the beginning of April, weather patterns have once again shifted, creating concern among both citizens and farmers.
On Tuesday, the day witnessed alternating sunshine and clouds, with the sky frequently changing between bright sunlight and dark overcast conditions. By evening, dense clouds covered the sky completely, indicating another sudden weather shift.
According to the Meteorological Department, light rainfall is likely in some areas on April 1. A fresh western disturbance is expected to affect northwest India from April 2, increasing the chances of rain and strong winds between April 2 and April 4.
Meanwhile, several areas of Pathankot experienced a sudden weather change around Tuesday afternoon, with heavy rainfall and hailstorm lasting nearly half an hour. The sudden spell caused a noticeable drop in temperature, making the weather feel cooler once again.
However, the unseasonal rainfall has raised serious concerns for farmers. Wheat crops nearing harvest face the risk of damage, as rain and strong winds could cause crop lodging and affect grain quality.
Hailstorms have also posed a threat to vegetable crops and fruit orchards. Local farmers expressed worry that continued weather instability may make it difficult to safely harvest ready crops.
Current conditions suggest that the coming days will be crucial from a weather and agricultural perspective. While residents are advised to stay prepared for sudden weather changes, farmers are urged to take precautionary measures to protect their crops.
