Shimla (Kameshwar Sharma): The Shimla Police Seize 915 Grams of Opium Case took a major turn after the district police arrested two individuals and recovered approximately 915 grams of opium during a special anti-drug operation. The Special Cell of Shimla Police carried out the action as part of its ongoing campaign against drug trafficking in the district.
Police officials said the accused failed to produce any valid documents related to the recovered contraband. Consequently, the police registered a case against them under the provisions of the NDPS Act.
Special Cell Conducted Anti-Drug Operation
According to police, the Special Cell team was on patrol during the midnight hours of June 10 and 11, 2026. The team conducted traffic checks and crime prevention activities in several areas, including Chhota Shimla, Dhalli, Mashobra, Basantpur, Sunni, Kadharghat, and Jalog.
Meanwhile, officers received specific intelligence regarding suspected drug transportation. Acting swiftly on the information, the police intercepted a vehicle and carried out a thorough search.
During the inspection, officers recovered approximately 915 grams of opium from the dashboard of the vehicle. As a result, the police immediately initiated legal proceedings in the Police Seize 915 Grams of Opium Case.
Two Accused Arrested
The police identified the accused as Dinesh Thakur (45), a resident of Bhog village in Theog tehsil, and Dharmendra Himral (33), a resident of Banuna village in Sunni tehsil.
Following the recovery, police arrested both individuals and took the vehicle into custody. Furthermore, investigators began questioning the accused to determine the source and intended destination of the seized narcotics.
Case Registered Under NDPS Act
Based on the recovery, police registered FIR No. 23/2026 at Sunni Police Station under Sections 18 and 29 of the NDPS Act.
Police will produce the accused before the court, officials said. In addition, investigators are examining possible links to a wider drug trafficking network.
