Shimla (Kameshwar Sharma): The district Shimla police have intensified their comprehensive crackdown against drug network traffickers, systematically dismantling supply networks operating in the region. As part of this ongoing drive, major developments have been reported under the NDPS Act case registered at Police Station Baluganj.
The case (FIR No. 27/26 dated 23-02-26) was registered after 6.7 grams of heroin (chitta) was recovered from accused Avinash Chauhan, son of late Mathu Ram Chauhan, resident of Chopal. During further investigation, police carried out detailed interrogation, digital evidence analysis, and scrutiny of bank transactions to trace backward linkages and the supply chain.
The investigation revealed that Avinash Chauhan was transferring money to multiple bank accounts operated by Vishal, a Bihar-based drug network handler, along with his associates. Acting on the money trail, a Baluganj police team arrested Vishal Yadav (20) and Jai Prakash Yadav (27), sons of Hari Ram Yadav, residents of Hardua village, Bhojpur district, Bihar, on April 24, 2026. Both accused were taken on transit remand for further investigation.
Preliminary findings indicate that accused Vishal’s bank accounts recorded transactions worth approximately ₹40 lakh over a period of just five months, with frequent daily cash withdrawals from multiple accounts. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are probing deeper links to identify other individuals involved in the drug trafficking network.
The Shimla police have reaffirmed their strict stance against drug trafficking. So far this year, 111 FIRs have been registered under the NDPS Act, leading to the arrest of 235 accused persons. In addition, 30 individuals involved in backward supply chains have been arrested from states including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Kerala, and the India-Nepal border regions. Furthermore, under PITNDPS provisions, 35 habitual offenders have been detained and sent to jail.
