Shimla (Kameshwar Sharma): The Shimla Gold Theft Case has been solved within just three days after Shimla Police arrested two women from Punjab and recovered stolen gold and silver jewellery worth approximately ₹45–50 lakh. The swift investigation, supported by CCTV footage, cyber tracking, and technical surveillance, led to the successful recovery of all the stolen valuables.
Police officials described the operation as a major success, highlighting the effective coordination between the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the Cyber Cell.
Theft Took Place in Lower Bazaar
The Shimla Gold Theft Case began on June 25, 2026, when Khub Singh Thakur, a resident of Shimla district, filed a complaint at Sadar Police Station.
According to the complaint, unidentified women allegedly stole valuable jewellery from his sling bag while he was shopping in Lower Bazaar, Shimla. The stolen items included around 40 tolas of gold ornaments and 250 grams of silver jewellery.
Police estimated the total value of the stolen jewellery at nearly ₹45–50 lakh.
SIT Used Technology to Track the Accused
After registering a case under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Shimla Police formed a Special Investigation Team to investigate the Shimla Gold Theft Case.
The team examined CCTV footage from the crime scene and nearby locations. Additionally, investigators collected technical evidence and worked with the Cyber Cell to identify the suspects and their vehicle.
Furthermore, officers tracked the movement of the accused across multiple locations using digital surveillance.
Accused Tried to Mislead Police
During the investigation, police found that the accused deliberately changed their travel route to avoid detection.
Instead of taking a direct route, they travelled from Shimla through Narkanda, Luhri, Kinngal, Kullu, Mandi, and Bilaspur before reaching Punjab.
However, the investigation team continued tracking their movements. Consequently, police successfully located both suspects through technical inputs.
Two Women Arrested in Punjab
On June 28, Shimla Police raided locations in Punjab and arrested both accused in the Shimla Gold Theft Case.
Police identified the women as 39-year-old Chandrawati from Patiala and 40-year-old Rekha from Rajpura in Patiala district.
Moreover, officers recovered all the stolen jewellery, including approximately 40 tolas of gold and 250 grams of silver ornaments.
The recovery represents a 100 percent recovery of the stolen property.
Police Continue Investigation
The court has sent both accused to police custody until July 2, 2026.
Meanwhile, investigators are examining every aspect of the Shimla Gold Theft Case. They are also verifying the previous criminal records of both accused to determine whether they were involved in similar theft cases.
Shimla Police said the successful operation demonstrates the effectiveness of timely investigation, technical analysis, and teamwork. Officials also reaffirmed their commitment to taking strict action against criminals and ensuring public safety.
