The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has approved a budget of ₹1,487.41 crore for the financial year 2026–27, which was passed unanimously amid chants of “Jaikara” by members during the budget session.
The budget meeting was held at Teja Singh Samundri Hall at the SGPC headquarters in the presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and was chaired by SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami. The budget was presented by SGPC General Secretary Sher Singh Mandwala.
Prominent Sikh religious leaders, including Acting Head Granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib Giani Amarjeet Singh, Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, and Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Giani Tek Singh, were specially present during the session.
The newly approved budget reflects a 7.28% increase compared to the previous financial year. While presenting the budget, Sher Singh Mandwala shared details regarding income sources, departmental allocations, and funds earmarked for future religious, educational, and welfare initiatives undertaken by the SGPC.
He highlighted that under the leadership of Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, the SGPC successfully organized Sikh centenary events with grandeur while continuing efforts in religious propagation, education promotion, and community welfare. Special financial provisions have again been allocated to these sectors.
Speaking to the media after the session, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami said the budget reflects the sentiments of the Sikh sangat and prioritizes improved facilities for devotees. An amount of ₹33 crore has been reserved for the construction of new sarais (accommodation facilities) linked to Sri Darbar Sahib.
According to budget details, ₹120 crore has been allocated for the Dharam Prachar Committee, while ₹1,127.34 crore has been earmarked for gurdwara management and related services. Additionally, ₹7.61 crore has been allocated for Panthic welfare initiatives, including legal assistance for Sikh prisoners, financial aid for families of martyrs, pensions, and support for Nihang Singh organizations and religious service groups.
The SGPC has also allocated ₹12.50 crore for free education for Sikh children, covering fee support for Amritdhari students, free education for Amritdhari girls, and assistance for economically weaker students. Funds have also been reserved to prepare Sikh youth for administrative and judicial services through Nishchai Academy.
Further allocations include ₹13.25 crore for Sikh religious propagation, ₹7 crore for centenary celebrations, ₹3.11 crore for sports promotion, ₹1.60 crore for natural disaster relief, and ₹66.77 crore for educational institutions, including infrastructure upgrades and financial support to academic bodies.
Dhami stated that the SGPC’s primary income sources remain donations and Dasvandh contributions from devotees. He clarified that despite comparisons, the SGPC budget amounts to only about 0.9% of the Punjab government’s budget, roughly equivalent to that of a large municipal corporation.
He reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to serving the Sikh community according to the sentiments of the sangat while prioritizing improved facilities and welfare initiatives.
Several SGPC office bearers, members, and officials attended the general session and shared their views during the proceedings.
