Political activity intensified in Samana after former Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh visited the residence of former Congress MLA Nirmal Singh Samana and formally inducted him into the Akali Dal (Punarsurjit).
During the event, Giani Harpreet Singh honored Nirmal Singh with a siropa (ceremonial robe) and welcomed him into the party. Nirmal Singh’s son Satnam Singh and several supporters also joined the party on the occasion. Former minister Surjit Singh Rakhra was also present during the political gathering.
Speaking to the media, Giani Harpreet Singh expressed serious concern over the rising gangsterism in Punjab. He stated that external elements and individuals involved in criminal activities pose a growing threat to the state. He also warned against the increasing influence of the sand mafia and drug trafficking networks, emphasizing the need for strict action to safeguard Punjab’s future.
He questioned the government’s approach toward the sacrilege law, stating that similar laws had been enacted earlier but failed to ensure punishment for the accused. He added that he does not have high expectations from the current government regarding the issue.
Giani Harpreet Singh further clarified that Akali Dal (Punarsurjit) is actively preparing for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections and ruled out any alliance with Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal). However, he said the party remains open to cooperation with political groups working in Punjab’s interest.
Nirmal Singh stated that he had stayed away from active politics for a long time but decided to return due to the current situation, claiming that the voice of the common people is being suppressed. He also thanked Surjit Singh Rakhra for motivating him to rejoin political life.
The development is being viewed as a significant political move ahead of upcoming electoral dynamics in Punjab.
