Investigation Started During Routine Police Checking

SSP Dr. Darpan Ahluwalia revealed that the investigation behind the Punjab Singer Arrested With 5Kg Heroin case began on March 7, 2026.

During routine checking, Doraha Police stopped an Etios car and recovered 301 grams of heroin from Akshay Kumar, a resident of Ludhiana. After interrogation, police conducted further raids that led to the recovery of another 268 grams of heroin, 10 grams of Ice (crystal methamphetamine), 30 live cartridges, and additional drug money.

The investigation later revealed that Akshay Kumar had allegedly received the drug consignments from Vishal and Sanjeev Kumar alias Sunny. Police said the accused were actively supplying narcotics in multiple areas across Punjab.

Jail Connections Helped Strengthen Drug Network

According to investigators, Sanjeev Kumar alias Sunny came into contact with Jatinder Singh alias Goldy during imprisonment. After their release from jail, both allegedly worked together to strengthen and expand their narcotics network.

As the investigation progressed, police uncovered the names of Gurjant Singh alias Janta and Punjabi singer Harbir Singh Sohal. Their involvement reportedly surfaced during interrogation and technical investigation, leading police to arrest Sohal.

Authorities believe multiple members of the network played separate roles, including drug transportation, supply management, financial handling, and local distribution.

Australia-Based Operator Under Police Scanner

Punjab Police officials stated that Gurjant Singh alias Janta was allegedly operating the international drug network remotely from Australia. Investigators claim he managed funding, coordination, and operational activities while local associates in Punjab handled the supply and distribution chain.
