Chandigarh – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) opposed Jagtar Hawara’s parole plea in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The agency cited serious security concerns and urged the court to reject the request.
Hawara sought temporary parole to meet his sick mother. The High Court heard the matter and fixed the next hearing for June 3.
Jagtar Hawara’s Parole Plea: Hawara Seeks Humanitarian Relief
In his petition, Hawara requested four weeks of regular parole. He said he has spent more than 28 years and 9 months in prison. Therefore, he asked the court to grant relief on humanitarian grounds.
He also mentioned his 81-year-old mother, Narendra Kaur. According to the petition, she suffers from several serious health problems. Hawara claimed that her condition has become very critical.
Furthermore, he told the court that he wants to care for his mother as a son. He added that his long stay in prison has badly affected family ties.
Petition Mentions Family Issues
The petition also stated that Hawara cannot manage family property and personal matters due to his imprisonment. In addition, he referred to the constitutional principle of equality.
Hawara pointed out that his co-convicts in the Beant Singh assassination case have received regular parole since 2013. These include Lakhwinder Singh, Shamsher Singh, and Gurmeet Singh.
Therefore, he argued that authorities should treat his case in a similar manner.
CBI Raises Security Concerns
However, the CBI strongly opposed the Jagtar Hawara’s Parole plea. The agency said security agencies still consider the matter sensitive.
According to the CBI, granting parole could create law and order concerns. For this reason, the agency asked the court not to provide any relief.
Meanwhile, the High Court accepted the CBI’s reply on record. The court will continue hearing the case on June 3.

The upcoming hearing has now gained major attention. Both sides are expected to present further arguments before the High Court delivers its decision on the parole request.
