Chandigarh: The Punjab Launches Underground Power Line Project initiative gained major attention after Bhagwant Mann launched a pilot project to completely underground electricity lines in his native village, Satoj.
The Chief Minister said no other state in India has yet introduced such an advanced electricity system at the rural level. Moreover, he described the project as a major step toward safer and modern village infrastructure.
The ambitious project carries an estimated budget of nearly ₹8 crore.
41 Kilometers of Underground Cable Planned
Under the Punjab Launches Underground Power Line Project initiative, authorities will install nearly 41 kilometers of underground power cables across the village.
Furthermore, officials will remove around 382 electricity poles from village roads. Authorities will also shift 11kV high-voltage lines underground to improve safety and reduce accidents.
According to officials, the new underground fiber cable system is designed to withstand extreme weather conditions and improve electricity reliability.
Mann Targets Previous Governments Over Corruption
While addressing the gathering, Bhagwant Mann accused previous governments of encouraging corruption in the name of installing electricity poles.
Moreover, he claimed that people were forced to pay bribes even for small electricity-related works.
The Chief Minister said the state government is now focusing on transparent and modern infrastructure development in rural areas.

CM Recalls Tragic Deaths in His Village
Highlighting the dangers caused by loose and hanging electricity wires, Bhagwant Mann shared that three young residents of Satoj lost their lives due to negligence linked to the old power network.
Furthermore, he said the underground electricity project would serve as a true tribute to those victims and their families.
According to the Chief Minister, the new system will not only protect human lives but also prevent frequent crop fires caused by short circuits.

Mann Criticizes Centre Over Economic Issues
During the event, Bhagwant Mann also criticized Narendra Modi and the central government over economic policies and foreign relations.
Moreover, he alleged that the Centre was blaming Gulf region tensions for economic problems in the country.
He demanded that the Prime Minister disclose all agreements signed during foreign visits and present details before Parliament.
The Chief Minister further claimed that such foreign visits mainly benefit industrialists while ordinary citizens continue facing economic challenges.
Punjab Government Assures No Power Crisis
Rejecting fears of a possible electricity crisis, Bhagwant Mann said the Punjab government has secured thermal power plants and restarted coal mines.
Furthermore, he stated that the state currently has an additional coal reserve sufficient for 45 days.
The Chief Minister also repeated his government’s promise to provide monthly financial assistance of ₹1,000 and ₹1,500 to women in the state.
