Punjab Announces Election Dates for Four Municipal Councils

Chandigarh: The Punjab Announces Election Dates for Four Municipal Councils schedule has officially been announced by the Punjab State Election Commission.

According to the notification issued under Section 13-A of the Punjab Municipal Act, 1911, elections will take place for members of Dinanagar Municipal Council, Gurdaspur Municipal Council, Qadian Municipal Council, and Sham Chaurasi Municipal Council.

Furthermore, the Local Government Department Punjab issued the official notification on May 21, 2026.

Nomination Process to Begin on May 28

As per the election schedule, candidates can submit nomination papers from May 28, 2026. The nomination filing process will continue daily between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM at the offices of the concerned Returning Officers.

Moreover, June 1, 2026, has been fixed as the last date for submitting nomination papers. Officials will scrutinize nomination papers on June 2, 2026.

After that, candidates can withdraw nominations until 3:00 PM on June 3, 2026.

Voting to Take Place on June 10

The Punjab Announces Election Dates for Four Municipal Councils voting process will take place on June 10, 2026. Polling will begin at 8:00 AM and continue until 4:00 PM.

Additionally, officials confirmed that authorities will count votes immediately after polling concludes on the same day. The State Election Commission stated that it has completed all preparations to ensure smooth polling arrangements.

Following the announcement of the election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct came into immediate effect in all concerned municipal council areas. The code will remain active until the entire election process concludes.
