Bengaluru: A major administrative action has been taken in connection with the PM Modi Security Lapse in Bengaluru during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Art of Living Foundation centre on May 10.
Authorities suspended six police officials, including one sub-inspector, one assistant sub-inspector, and four constables. The officials will remain suspended until the investigation concludes. The action came nearly two weeks after police discovered a suspicious box near the Prime Minister’s convoy route in Bengaluru.
Suspicious Box Found Near Convoy Route
According to reports, officials found the suspicious box near the Kuppareddy Kere area, around 2 to 3 kilometres away from the Art of Living Foundation centre.
Furthermore, sources revealed that a constable spotted the suspicious object nearly one and a half hours before the Prime Minister’s convoy passed through the route. Initially, investigators discovered two gelatin sticks and a matchbox inside the package.
However, when National Investigation Agency officials began a detailed investigation, they reportedly found batteries, wires, camphor, a real-time clock, and an LCD display inside the box as well. Authorities had placed the material near the wall of a private property.
NIA and IB Launch Investigation
Following the incident, security agencies immediately went on high alert. Teams from the National Investigation Agency and the Intelligence Bureau visited the site and collected evidence.
Moreover, police teams travelled to several districts in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka to continue the investigation. Despite extensive efforts, investigators have not yet achieved a major breakthrough in the case.
FSL Report Reveals Important Details
The Forensic Science Laboratory report stated that the recovered gelatin sticks were nearly three years old. Additionally, the report confirmed that the timer device was not functioning properly. Officials also found no detonator inside the package.
Therefore, experts said the box did not pose an immediate explosion threat.
Nevertheless, security agencies treated the matter very seriously because officials recovered the suspicious material close to the Prime Minister’s convoy route.
BJP Attacks Karnataka Government
After the incident, Bharatiya Janata Party leaders strongly criticized the Congress-led Karnataka government. State BJP president BY Vijayendra described the incident as a serious and “unforgivable” security failure.
Furthermore, he claimed that law and order had collapsed in the state and questioned the safety situation in Bengaluru.
Security Agencies Intensify Monitoring
Prime Minister Narendra Modi receives one of the highest levels of security protection in the country. Therefore, the discovery of suspicious explosive-related material near his convoy route raised major concerns among security agencies. As a result, authorities quickly suspended the six police personnel and intensified the investigation into the case.
The PM Modi Security Lapse in Bengaluru has now become a major national security discussion.
