New Delhi: During the parliamentary debate on the Women’s Reservation Bill, Prime Minister Narendra Modi adopted a sharp and direct tone, targeting the opposition over the prolonged delay in passing the legislation.
Addressing the House, PM Modi remarked that the issue had been stalled for nearly three decades due to technical and procedural excuses. He stated, “For so many years, it remained stuck, caught in obstacles, and pushed aside. Now that it is finally moving forward, it should be allowed to proceed.”
His comments highlighted the long-standing political consensus around women’s reservation, which, despite broad agreement, had not been implemented until now.
The Prime Minister further emphasized that once a task has been accomplished, it should be taken forward without unnecessary delays. He added that some individuals were still trying to extract political mileage from the issue.
During the debate, opposition members raised objections to the Prime Minister’s remarks, pointing out their representation from backward communities. Responding with a sharp remark, PM Modi said, “Let them speak; in Bengal, their voices are silenced.”
His comment triggered laughter across the House, adding a dramatic moment to the ongoing debate.
The exchange underscored the intense political atmosphere in Parliament as discussions on the Women’s Reservation Bill continue.
