PM Narendra Modi Calls Women Reservation Bill Historic, Shares Inspiring Village Story

Modi Calls Women Reservation Bill a Historic Step

Narendra Modi on Monday said that India is on the verge of making one of the most significant decisions of the 21st century, as Parliament prepares to amend the law to implement the Women’s Reservation Act from 2029.

Speaking at the Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan, held ahead of the three-day parliamentary session beginning April 16, the Prime Minister said the move would “write a new chapter in history” and transform long-standing aspirations into reality.

He praised the growing participation of women in governance and emphasized that women across the country are ready and eager to take on larger responsibilities.

Historic Step for Women Empowerment

The Prime Minister highlighted that implementing the Women’s Reservation Act would strengthen democracy and ensure greater representation of women in decision-making roles across the country.

Inspiring Story Shared by PM Modi

During his address, Modi shared a touching anecdote from his tenure as Chief Minister.

He recalled meeting a village woman leader (Pradhan), who had studied only up to Class 8. She had visited him along with other women members of her panchayat but carried no list of demands.

When asked about her vision, the woman gave a remarkable response—her dream was to completely eliminate poverty from her village.

The Prime Minister said he was deeply impressed by her answer, adding that even leading economists might not have expressed such a powerful vision. He noted that her words continue to resonate with him.

A Different Perspective on Leadership

Modi further pointed out that while many leaders typically focus on demands such as roads, schools, and hospitals, the woman’s vision reflected a broader and more transformative outlook for society.

He emphasized that such grassroots leadership showcases the immense potential of women in shaping the future of the nation.
