Mandi: The Municipal Corporation Mandi organized an awareness and capacity-building workshop in its auditorium with principals and representatives from schools across the city. The workshop was chaired by Municipal Commissioner Rohit Rathour, focusing on sanitation and solid waste management practices.
During the session, participants were educated about the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026, with special emphasis on the importance of waste segregation at source. Officials highlighted that proper segregation of waste at homes, schools, and public places is a crucial step toward achieving cleanliness and sustainability.
Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Rathour said that waste segregation plays a vital role in building a clean and healthy city. He added that under the “Clean City, Prosperous City” initiative, Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh had launched the Clean Mandi Green Mandi 2026 campaign from Seri Manch on April 15, marking Himachal Day.
The campaign aims to spread awareness about sanitation and promote responsible waste management practices among citizens. As part of this initiative, the Municipal Corporation is also leveraging social media platforms to engage the public.
Officials revealed that a special awareness song was launched to support the campaign, and schools have been encouraged to involve students in creating short videos (reels) on cleanliness and waste management. These videos are to be shared on social media to amplify the campaign’s message. The initiative will run until May 15, 2026.
Commissioner Rathour emphasized that students can play a key role in spreading awareness. Schools have been urged to organize regular workshops and activities to educate students, who can further influence their families and communities.
He concluded that messages delivered through students have a powerful ripple effect, helping build a culture of cleanliness and environmental responsibility across society.
