The Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), located at Rashtrapati Niwas in Shimla, will formally launch a battery-operated golf cart on April 6, 2026, at 3:00 PM under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of the State Bank of India (SBI). The event will take place at the institute’s ticket booth premises.
The initiative aims to promote green energy within the campus while reducing noise and air pollution, ensuring convenient and environmentally friendly transportation for visitors. The eco-friendly golf cart has been introduced primarily to assist senior citizens, differently-abled individuals, and other visitors.
The cart will operate along a designated route from Gorkha Gate to the ticket booth, providing safe and easy mobility within the historic campus.
During the program, officials will present an overview highlighting the utility and environmental significance of the golf cart service. Senior SBI officials will ceremonially hand over a symbolic key to IIAS Director Prof. Himanshu Kumar Chaturvedi. Following traditional rituals and inauguration formalities, the golf cart will be flagged off for its first official run.
Refreshments and sweets will be served to guests, journalists, and staff members at the conclusion of the event.
The IIAS administration described the initiative as more than just a new facility, calling it a meaningful step toward building green, inclusive, and environmentally sustainable public infrastructure.
