HPV Vaccination Drive Launched in Shimla, 217 Girls Vaccinated on Day One

HPV Vaccination Drive Begins in Shimla District

The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign was successfully launched in Shimla district today, marking an important step toward protecting adolescent girls from cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases.

On the first day of the campaign, a total of 217 adolescent girls were vaccinated through 39 Cold Chain Points (CCPs) established across the district. Across Himachal Pradesh, the vaccination drive covered 1,970 girls at 333 centres, reflecting a positive start to the statewide public health initiative.

Health officials stated that adverse weather conditions in several parts of the district slightly affected the expected turnout of beneficiaries. However, the Health Department ensured smooth conduct of all vaccination sessions through the active participation of field staff and healthcare workers. Despite challenging conditions, the campaign was carried out successfully.

Shimla Chief Medical Officer Dr. Yashpal Ranta appealed to parents, healthcare workers, school teachers, and community leaders to actively support the initiative and encourage eligible girls to receive the vaccine to safeguard them against serious illnesses.

According to the Health Department, girls aged 14 years (completed) to 15 years and 90 days are eligible for the HPV vaccination under the campaign. The next vaccination sessions are scheduled to be held on April 5, 2026, and April 12, 2026.

Officials have urged all stakeholders to ensure maximum participation in the upcoming sessions to achieve wider coverage and protect adolescent girls from cervical cancer and other HPV-related health risks.
