Health Department Amritsar Launches Awareness Drive Against Dengue & Malaria

Amritsar Health Dept Launches Dengue Awareness Drive

Amritsar (Suraj Kamlesh): The Health Department Amritsar has launched a city-wide awareness campaign to educate the public about malaria and dengue under the directions of Civil Surgeon Dr. Satinderjit Singh Bajaj.

As part of the initiative, awareness teams were flagged off from the Civil Surgeon Office to spread information among residents regarding prevention and control of vector-borne diseases.

Dr. Bajaj emphasized that preventing mosquito breeding is the most effective way to control dengue and malaria, stating that “prevention is better than cure.” He explained that malaria is a vector-borne disease caused by the bite of the female Anopheles mosquito.

He further highlighted common symptoms of malaria, including high fever with chills, severe headache, muscle and joint pain, pain behind the eyes, vomiting, and in severe cases, bleeding from the nose, mouth, or gums. He urged people to immediately visit government hospitals for free testing and treatment if symptoms appear.

District Epidemiologist Dr. Harjot Kaur stated that health teams are regularly conducting fogging, spraying, and awareness drives across the district, especially in identified hotspot areas.

District M&EO Amarjeet Singh added that awareness is being spread through posters, banners, and pamphlets across the district to educate people about dengue and malaria prevention.

Several health officials and staff members, including Dr. Rajinderpal Kaur, Dr. Jaspal Singh, Dr. Rashmi Vij, Gurdev Singh, Prithpal Singh, and others, were present during the campaign launch.
