Members of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee Punjab alleged that several farmers, labourers, and women protesters were detained by police in Fazilka while heading to question the Punjab Chief Minister during his visit to the district.
According to protest leaders, the detentions were carried out in an “illegal and undemocratic manner,” with demonstrators taken into custody and confined in local police stations before they could reach the event venue.
State leader Satnam Singh Pannu strongly condemned the government’s action, calling it an attempt to suppress citizens peacefully exercising their democratic rights. He claimed that nearly 35 leaders and workers were forcibly detained and described the move as a misuse of police power.
The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha warned that if the detained leaders are not released immediately, the organization will launch a stronger agitation across the state. Leaders emphasized that such pressure tactics would not weaken the movement but instead make it stronger.
The organization stated that their struggle will continue until justice is delivered and democratic rights are restored. Protesters also reiterated several pending demands, including compensation for losses suffered by farmers at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders, cancellation of cases related to stubble burning, release of flood compensation, opposition to the Seed Bill and Electricity Amendment Bill, repeal of certain rural laws, and restoration of the previous MGNREGA system.
They further announced that until the Chief Minister clarifies the government’s stand on these issues, farmers and labourers will continue forming groups to question him peacefully during public rallies, without fear of arrests or police action.
