Budha Dal Akhand Path Begins, Gatka Events on Baisakhi

Amritsar: On the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi, the Nihang Singh forces of the Budha Dal, under the leadership of its 14th chief, Jathedar Baba Balbir Singh 96 Crore, have begun the recitation of Akhand Path dedicated to the festival.

The Akhand Path of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji commenced today and will conclude on April 14. Similarly, Akhand Paths of Sri Dasam Granth Ji and Sri Sarbloh Granth Ji will begin on April 13, with their concluding ceremonies scheduled for April 15.

The ceremonial Ardas to begin the Akhand Path was performed at the Budha Dal headquarters, Gurdwara Ber Sahib Degsar Sahib. Baba Sukhwinder Singh Maur led the Ardas, while Baba Maghar Singh, the head Granthi of Budha Dal, recited Gurbani Kirtan.

Several prominent members and devotees were present on the occasion, including Baba Jassa Singh, Baba Baldev Singh Dhodiwind, Sardar Inderpal Singh Fauji, Baba Gurmukh Singh, Baba Daler Singh, Baba Vishwapratap Singh, Baba Lachhman Singh, Baba Sukhdev Singh Sukkha, Baba Joga Singh Hanumangarh, Bhai Maan Singh Likhari, Baba Major Singh, and others.

Jathedar Baba Balbir Singh stated that a two-day Gatka (traditional Sikh martial art) competition will also be organized at the Budha Dal headquarters. As per tradition, the Malwa Gatka Cup will be held on the historic occasion of Baisakhi.

Around 20 renowned teams are expected to participate in the competitions this year. Eminent referees, Gatka masters, and judges will officiate the event.

He emphasized that Sikh martial arts hold a significant place in Sikh traditions, and such initiatives are essential for preserving and promoting this heritage. The Budha Dal organizes these competitions every year to encourage and uplift the art of Gatka.

Participating teams will be honored with certificates and mementos by Jathedar Baba Balbir Singh 96 Crore.
