Amritsar (Dawarka Nath Rana): Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann visited Sri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar as part of the Bhagwant Mann Shukrana Yatra Amritsar. He bowed before Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and thanked God for giving him the strength and wisdom to implement the new anti-sacrilege law.

The Chief Minister said his government considers it a blessing to pass such a historic law. He stated that the legislation will help prevent incidents that hurt religious sentiments in the future.

CM Calls Anti-Sacrilege Law Historic Step

During his address, Bhagwant Mann said the government introduced the Jagat Jyoti Sri Guru Granth Sahib Respect Amendment Act 2026. He called it a strong and historic step to protect the dignity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

He said the law ensures strict punishment for anyone found guilty of sacrilege. The punishment may include long-term imprisonment or even life imprisonment in serious cases.

The CM added that the law was drafted after consulting legal experts and aims to deter future crimes against religious scriptures.

Speaking during the Bhagwant Mann Shukrana Yatra Amritsar, the Chief Minister said sacrilege incidents were part of a conspiracy to disturb peace and communal harmony in Punjab.

He claimed that the new law is strong enough to prevent such incidents in the future. According to him, no one will dare to commit such offences once strict punishment is enforced.

Bhagwant Mann also said that Sikh Sangat across the world has welcomed the law, while some political groups have opposed it for their own reasons.

Bhagwant Mann Shukrana Yatra Continues Across Punjab

The Chief Minister said the four-day Shukrana Yatra is a spiritual journey of gratitude. It started from Sri Anandpur Sahib and will continue till May 9.

He is scheduled to visit several important Sikh religious places, including Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Damdama Sahib, and Fatehgarh Sahib.

Bhagwant Mann said the purpose of the yatra is to thank God for allowing him to serve Punjab and humanity.

Massive Public Support for Yatra

The CM thanked people for participating in large numbers despite the heat. He said the Bhagwant Mann Shukrana Yatra Amritsar has received strong public support across Punjab.

He added that this is the first time a government has introduced such a strict law to protect the respect of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

According to him, both the Punjab Cabinet and the Legislative Assembly unanimously passed the legislation.
