Amritsar (Dawarka Nath Rana): Tension escalated in Punjab after farmers and labor groups staged a strong Bhagwant Mann Farmer Protest during Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s visit to Sri Amritsar Sahib. Protesters accused the Punjab government of ignoring farmers’ issues while focusing on political campaigns and public events.
Farmer leaders claimed the government blocked roads and deployed heavy police forces to stop protesters from reaching the Chief Minister’s convoy.
Farmers Attempted to Reach National Highway
Senior farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said the Bhagwant Mann Farmer Protest aimed to question the Punjab government over pending farmer and labor demands.
He said farmer groups gathered in Tahli Sahib, Jabbowal, Vanchari, and Bandala before marching towards the Jalandhar-Amritsar National Highway.
Farmer leaders also raised the issue of alleged losses worth nearly ₹3.77 crore during the removal of the Shambhu and Khanauri protest sites.
Bhagwant Mann Farmer Protest: Heavy Police Deployment Creates Tension
Farmer leaders alleged that the Punjab government blocked roads at several places using buses, tippers, and other civilian vehicles.
They claimed authorities deployed thousands of police personnel and Rapid Action Force members to prevent protesters from moving forward.
Despite the barricades, a large group of farmers reportedly managed to reach the national highway under the leadership of state leader Germanjit Singh Bandala.
As Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s convoy passed without stopping, protesters waved black flags and shouted slogans against the government.
Farmers Accuse Government of Avoiding Questions
Farmer organizations alleged that the Chief Minister avoided direct interaction with protesters and failed to address major concerns related to farmers and laborers.
Leaders also claimed police continued blocking roads even after the Chief Minister left Amritsar for Tarn Taran. They said farmers faced restrictions for several hours while returning home.
The situation reportedly led to heated arguments and minor clashes between protesters and police officials.
Farmer Leaders Criticize Punjab Government
Farmer leaders accused the Punjab government of creating a tense atmosphere in coordination with the central government.
They argued that peaceful farmer organizations should not be treated as security threats or anti-national groups.
The leaders claimed the government used police action and media management to suppress democratic voices instead of resolving public issues.
Farmer representatives, including Ranjit Singh Kaler Bala, Baz Singh Sarangra, and Gurdev Singh Gaggomahal, strongly criticized the state government during the protest.
Protest Warning for Future CM Visits
Farmer leaders warned that the Bhagwant Mann Farmer Protest would continue during future political tours unless the government seriously addresses farmers’ and laborers’ demands.
