Amritsar: A serious domestic dispute case has been reported in Amritsar, where the father of an alleged victim has approached the Police Commissioner seeking justice, claiming that his son was subjected to a life-threatening attack by his in-laws.
Tilak Singh, a resident of Jhabal Road, stated in his written complaint that his daughter-in-law has been mentally and physically harassing his son. He alleged that despite a simple marriage, she frequently issues threats of suicide and falsely implicating the entire family in legal cases if her demands are not met.
He further alleged that the daughter-in-law, in collusion with her maternal relatives, has made life difficult for his entire family. Around eight months ago, she allegedly entered their home along with her parents and relatives and took away jewellery and other valuables.
According to the complaint, the in-laws have been demanding that the family purchase a house for their daughter and register a car in her name. They also allegedly demanded ₹25 lakh as part of a divorce settlement and threatened false legal action if their demands were not fulfilled.
Tilak Singh further claimed that in January 2026, the accused family members visited his son’s rented accommodation and assaulted him with intent to kill. His son narrowly escaped with his life.
He has urged the Police Commissioner to ensure protection for his son and take strict legal action against the accused in-laws.
The matter has also drawn attention from social and rights organizations, including representatives of the All India Scheduled Caste Federation and human rights groups, who stated that misuse of legal provisions and allegations of harassment in domestic disputes is a serious concern.
They emphasized that while women’s safety cases are widely discussed, cases involving men as alleged victims also require fair investigation and justice.
Police officials are expected to examine the complaint and proceed with an investigation into the allegations.
