The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab has taken a major step toward strengthening healthcare services as party convenor Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated 109 new Mohalla Clinics across the state. With this expansion, the total number of Mohalla Clinics in Punjab has reached 990.
Addressing the gathering during the launch event, Kejriwal also made a significant announcement for women in Punjab. He stated that registrations for a financial assistance scheme for women will begin on April 13, under which eligible women will receive ₹1,000 per month. Once registration forms are completed, the funds will be directly transferred to beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
During his speech, Kejriwal criticized the newly formed government in Delhi, alleging that free electricity benefits were being discontinued and Mohalla Clinics had been shut down soon after the change in administration. He also addressed allegations related to the liquor policy case, citing court observations and asserting his honesty.
Kejriwal highlighted that over the past four years, 881 Mohalla Clinics had already been established in Punjab. With the addition of 109 new facilities, the total now stands at 990, and the state government aims to increase the number to 1,500 clinics in the near future.
All services at these clinics are provided completely free of cost. According to official figures, more than 50 million OPD consultations have been conducted so far, significantly improving access to healthcare for the general public.
The clinics are directly monitored by the Chief Minister’s Office, with patient feedback collected regularly under the supervision of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s administration. Kejriwal stated that positive public response reflects satisfaction with improved medical services.
On the occasion, Kejriwal also extended birthday wishes to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s daughter, Niamat Kaur, expressing hope that she would fulfill her parents’ aspirations.
Calling the women’s financial assistance initiative a major welfare step, Kejriwal said the registration process will be launched statewide soon, ensuring smooth implementation and direct benefit transfers to women beneficiaries.
