Political tensions in Punjab have intensified once again as Baltej Pannu, State Media Incharge of the Aam Aadmi Party, launched a sharp attack on the Shiromani Akali Dal over past records and recent developments.
In his statement, Pannu alleged that the Akali Dal’s tenure from 2007 to 2017 was marked by controversies, including issues related to drugs and the rise of mafia culture in the state. He claimed that several incidents during that period raised serious questions about the role of leaders in governance and law enforcement.
Escalating the matter further, Pannu referred to a recent case in Moga, where a local Akali leader and municipal councillor Jagjit Singh Jeeta was allegedly arrested in connection with immoral activities. According to reports, during a police raid at a hotel, several women were rescued, including a minor, making the case more serious.
Pannu questioned the silence of senior Akali leaders over the incident, stating that the lack of a clear response raises concerns among the public. He also targeted the party’s ongoing “Punjab Bachao Yatra,” claiming that photographs of the accused leader with senior party figures have sparked discussions about political associations.
He further pointed out that similar controversial incidents have surfaced in Moga in the past, where names of political figures were reportedly linked, suggesting a larger pattern that requires serious scrutiny.
Appealing to the public, Pannu urged people to form opinions carefully and learn from such incidents. He reiterated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the government will not compromise on law and order and strict legal action will be taken against anyone found guilty.
