Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal Launches ₹1.21 Crore Sewer Cleaning Drive in Ajnala on Baisakhi

Ajnala Sewer Project Launched, ₹1.21 Cr Cleanup Drive

Ajnala: Marking the occasion of Baisakhi, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, MLA, former Punjab minister, and state chief spokesperson of the Aam Aadmi Party, launched a major sewer cleaning campaign worth ₹1.21 crore in Ajnala town.

The initiative aims to address the long-standing sewerage issues faced by residents. The project, undertaken by the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board, is scheduled to be completed by August 15, with strict directions issued to officials and contractors to ensure timely execution.

Speaking at the launch, Dhaliwal assured residents that the use of modern machinery would ensure effective and long-term resolution of sewer blockages, preventing future sanitation problems.

He highlighted that the town’s 52-kilometre sewer network had not been cleaned for nearly 20 years during previous governments, leading to frequent overflows and health hazards due to stagnant wastewater in streets.

Dhaliwal stated that resolving this issue required persistent efforts, as several administrative hurdles had been created earlier. During monsoon seasons, clogged sewer lines had worsened the situation, forcing residents to repeatedly approach authorities for relief.

At the event, Sewerage Board engineer Gurbhej Singh assured full transparency in the execution of the project and stated that no negligence by the contractor would be tolerated.

Earlier, Dhaliwal also paid obeisance at Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Deep Singh and extended greetings to the Sikh community on Khalsa Sajna Diwas. He also informed religious representatives about recent amendments in the sacrilege law introduced under Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, aimed at imposing stricter punishments, including life imprisonment, for those found guilty.

The initiative is expected to significantly improve sanitation conditions and enhance the quality of life for Ajnala residents.
