Mohali: In a shocking development, a kidney transplant racket has once again been exposed in Punjab. The illegal operation was uncovered during a raid conducted by a team of senior health department doctors at a private hospital in Kharar, Mohali district.
At the time of the raid, both the donor and the recipient were present, and the transplant procedure was reportedly underway. Authorities immediately intervened and shifted both individuals safely to Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI), where they are currently under medical supervision.
Following the incident, Kharar Police registered a case against three individuals, including a doctor and two assistants. While the doctor, identified as Dr. Manpreet, is absconding, the two aides—Mahinder and Rakesh—have been arrested.
Providing details, Amrinder Singh, Station House Officer of Kharar City Police Station, said that the raid was carried out based on a complaint received from a team of senior doctors. During the operation, both the donor and recipient were found at the facility, and it was revealed that neither of them belonged to Punjab.
Officials also recovered several items and key pieces of evidence from the hospital premises. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under multiple relevant legal provisions.
Police have launched a manhunt to arrest the absconding doctor. Meanwhile, an investigation is underway to determine how long the racket had been operating and the financial transactions involved in the illegal organ trade.
Given the sensitive nature of the case, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is being constituted to probe the matter in detail. Senior officials are closely monitoring the investigation to uncover the full extent of the kidney transplant network.
