Una (Kameshwar Sharma): The TB Free India Campaign received a major review during a joint meeting held at the Regional Hospital auditorium in Una. Assistant Commissioner Vinay Modi chaired the meeting. During the session, officials assessed the district’s progress under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP).
Furthermore, the meeting brought together members of the District TB Elimination Committee, District TB Forum, District Co-Morbidity Committee, and TB Death Audit Review Committee. Together, they reviewed ongoing activities, achievements, and future strategies to strengthen the TB Free India Campaign across the district.
Una Detects 386 TB Patients in 2026
During the meeting, officials reported that 386 tuberculosis patients were identified in Una district between January and May 2026.
Meanwhile, health teams are conducting special screening drives in high-risk villages and urban wards under the TB Free India Campaign 2.0. For this purpose, they are using digital X-ray facilities and advanced NAAT diagnostic technology to detect TB cases at an early stage.
As a result, the district aims to improve early diagnosis and reduce the spread of tuberculosis.
Officials Review Key TB Elimination Initiatives
During the review, Assistant Commissioner Vinay Modi appreciated the district’s achievements under the TB Free India Campaign. In particular, he praised the progress made through the TB-Free Panchayat initiative.
Additionally, officials reviewed several important programmes, including:
- Nikshay Mitra initiative
- Nutritional support for TB patients
- Differentiated TB care
- Effective management of co-morbidities
- Progress of the TB-Free Panchayat campaign

Public Participation Essential for TB-Free India
Meanwhile, Vinay Modi urged government departments, Panchayati Raj representatives, self-help groups, social organizations, and elected representatives to actively support the TB Free India Campaign.
He emphasized that the goal of eliminating tuberculosis cannot be achieved by the Health Department alone. Instead, every section of society must contribute to making India TB-free.
Therefore, he called for greater public awareness, stronger community participation, and coordinated action to eliminate the disease.
TB Death Audit Identifies Major Risk Factors
The committee also reviewed TB-related deaths reported during 2026.
During the review, officials found that delayed diagnosis, severe co-morbidities, old age, diabetes, heart disease, and delays in treatment were the major causes of TB-related deaths.
Therefore, they stressed the need for regular monitoring of high-risk patients, early diagnosis, timely referrals, and greater family-level awareness. Ultimately, these measures can significantly reduce TB mortality in the district.
WHO Advisor Reviews 100-Day TB Elimination Drive
Additionally, Dr. Niket Kumar presented a detailed report on the district’s 100-day intensive TB elimination campaign.
The presentation covered:
- Active TB case finding
- Screening of vulnerable populations
- TB preventive treatment
- Nikshay Mitra initiative
- Nutritional support for patients
- Measures to reduce TB-related deaths
Finally, the report outlined future strategies to strengthen the TB Free India Campaign across Una district and further accelerate TB elimination efforts.

The meeting was attended by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Verma, District TB Officer Dr. Vishal Thakur, District Programme Coordinator Rakesh Kumar, District TB-HIV Coordinator Gulshan Kumar, Senior TB Laboratory Supervisor Sandeep Dheer, and officials from the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme along with representatives of various departments.
