Demonstrating swift response, bravery, and commitment to protecting human life, Shimla district police successfully rescued a woman from drowning in the Sutlej River, giving her a new lease on life.
According to official information, on March 31, 2026, at around 12:59 PM, Police Station Rampur received an alert that a woman was attempting to jump into the Sutlej River from the Bajir Bavdi Bridge. Acting immediately, the Station House Officer along with a police team rushed to the location.
As soon as the police team reached the spot, the woman jumped into the river. Without wasting any time, police personnel initiated a rescue operation.
During the rescue, Constable Satpal displayed exceptional courage by jumping into the Sutlej River and safely pulling the woman out, while other police personnel actively assisted in the operation.
The woman was later identified as Ashok Kumari (44), a resident of Nirmand in Kullu district. She was immediately shifted to Khaneri Hospital for medical treatment, where she is currently under care and has been handed over to her family members.
The incident stands as a strong example of the humanitarian sensitivity, dedication, and bravery displayed by the Himachal Pradesh Police in safeguarding lives.b
