Punjab Finance, Transport, Excise and Taxation Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema chaired a high-level review meeting to address issues related to delays in issuing Registration Certificates (RC) and Driving Licences (DL) across the state.
The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Varun Roojam, State Transport Commissioner Parnit Shergill, and other senior officials. The minister conducted a detailed review of departmental functioning with a special focus on resolving pending applications and improving public service delivery.
During the meeting, Cheema emphasized that all cases pending at verification and approval stages must be treated with urgency. Officials were directed to ensure the early disposal of long-pending applications to provide hassle-free services to citizens.
Reaffirming the commitment of the Punjab government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the minister stated that the administration is dedicated to delivering time-bound services. Cases exceeding the prescribed timelines will be closely monitored to ensure accountability.
To strengthen transparency and efficiency, the department is compiling detailed data on pending applications and reasons for delays. The initiative aims to identify bottlenecks and accelerate processing timelines.
Promoting digital governance, the minister also reviewed faceless and contactless driving licence services. Necessary directions were issued to clear pending digital applications within stipulated deadlines.
Addressing public inconvenience, Cheema announced that the backlog in printing RCs and driving licences at the centralized printing branch will be cleared on a priority basis.
Road safety measures were also discussed during the meeting, including the deployment and monitoring of highway traffic cameras across Punjab to improve traffic management and enforcement.
The minister added that efforts are underway to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the state’s transport network, with route schedules being reviewed to strengthen services across remaining areas.
