Punjab Farmers Free Toll Plazas in Bathinda Amid Protest Against CM Mann’s Jaito Visit

Punjab Farmers Make Toll Plazas Free Amid Fresh Protest

The farmers’ agitation in Punjab appears to be intensifying once again as members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Sidhupur) launched fresh protests against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s recent visit to Jaito.

As part of their protest, farmers made a major move by declaring the Lehra Bega Toll Plaza and the Sheikhupura Toll Plaza near Talwandi Sabo in Bathinda district toll-free for an indefinite period. Vehicles are being allowed to pass without paying any fee, providing temporary relief to commuters while increasing pressure on the state government.

Farmer leaders stated that the decision was taken in protest against the government’s alleged failure to address their concerns following an incident involving the Chief Minister at the Khanauri border. According to them, farmers have been seeking direct dialogue with the Chief Minister, but no meeting has been arranged by the administration so far.

Expressing anger over the lack of communication, protesters said freeing toll plazas is only the beginning of their agitation. They warned that if the government does not initiate talks soon, the movement could be intensified with stronger actions in the coming days.

Farm leaders emphasized that their objective is not disruption but ensuring their demands are heard through direct discussions with the government. The ongoing protest has once again highlighted growing tensions between farmers and the Punjab government.

All eyes are now on the state administration’s next move and whether dialogue will be initiated to resolve the issue. Observers believe that if the situation remains unresolved, the agitation could expand into a larger statewide protest.
