Punjab Girls Shine in Merit List, 19 of Top 20 Ranks

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday said that the ongoing “education revolution” in the state is now delivering strong results at the grassroots level.

He highlighted that girls have delivered an outstanding performance in the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) Class 8 merit list, securing 19 out of the top 20 positions, marking a historic achievement.

While honouring meritorious students in Chandigarh, the Chief Minister announced that the top 20 students will be granted direct admission to Schools of Eminence without any entrance examination. He said this reflects the government’s commitment to providing quality education.

CM Mann also felicitated the top three rank holders with cash prizes of ₹50,000 each and encouraged students to remain humble, work hard, and choose the right role models.

Top Performers Highlighted

  • Tamanna (Saraswati Senior Secondary School, Jaito) scored a perfect 600/600 marks, securing first position. She is the daughter of a clerk working at a brick kiln.
  • Japneet Kaur (Government Middle School, Adkawas) secured second position with 598 marks.
  • Jashandeep Kaur (Sant Mohan Das Memorial Senior Secondary School, Kot Sukhia) also scored 598 marks, securing third position.

All three students are also state and national-level sportspersons.

The Chief Minister noted that for the first time, girls have shown such dominance in the merit list, securing 19 out of the top 20 positions, while only one boy appeared at the 20th rank.

Impact of Education Reforms

CM Mann said that the Punjab government is giving top priority to education and has undertaken major improvements in infrastructure and learning environments in government schools.

He added that these reforms are now yielding visible results, empowering students from ordinary families to achieve extraordinary success.
