Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has called a session of the state legislature on April 13 at 11 AM. The session was earlier postponed from March 16 due to unspecified reasons.
According to sources, the upcoming session is likely to witness the introduction of the Blasphemy Bill, which proposes stringent penalties against individuals involved in blasphemy. The bill includes provisions for heavy fines, seizure of property, and penalties for offenses carried out through digital platforms. During the drafting of the bill, consultations were held with religious leaders and legal experts.
The government has clarified that the main objective of the bill is to prevent incidents of blasphemy and ensure strict action against offenders.
Apart from the Blasphemy Bill, the session may also discuss amendments to convert leasehold industrial plots/sheds into freehold and the Punjab Common Infrastructure (Regulation and Maintenance) (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
The legislative session is expected to cover both legal reforms and industrial policy changes, making it an important agenda for the state government.
