No Lockdown Planned in India, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Dismisses Rumours in Rajya Sabha

No Lockdown Planned in India Sitharaman Clarifies

Amid rising discussions and concerns across the country regarding a possible lockdown, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has firmly dismissed all such rumours, stating that the Government of India has no plans to impose a lockdown.

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha on Friday during the discussion on the Finance Bill 2026, the Finance Minister clarified that claims about an impending lockdown are baseless and are being spread only to create unnecessary fear among the public.

Parliament Sends Clear Message Against Rumours

During her address, Sitharaman strongly criticized the spread of misinformation and questioned where lockdowns were actually being imposed. She stated that such situations are not present in India at the moment and pointed out that similar restrictions are being observed in neighbouring Pakistan, not in India.

Her remarks conveyed that the government remains fully alert and is closely monitoring the prevailing situation while ensuring stability within the country.

The Finance Minister also referred to India’s relations with neighbouring countries, including Bangladesh and Pakistan, emphasizing that India continues to maintain cooperative ties and extends assistance whenever required.

She acknowledged that global developments, particularly unrest in the Middle East, have had some impact internationally, but India has managed the situation in a balanced and measured manner.

Government Urges Citizens to Trust Official Information

Highlighting efficient resource management by the government, Sitharaman assured that efforts are being made to ensure citizens do not face unnecessary hardships. She appealed to people to ignore rumours and rely only on verified and official information.

The statement has clarified that there is currently no situation in India requiring a lockdown, and the government continues to closely monitor evolving circumstances.
