No Fuel Shortage in India, Government Assures Amid Global Tensions; Oil Stocks Sufficient

No Fuel Shortage in India, Govt Assures Citizens

Providing major relief to the common man and middle-class households, the Central Government has clarified that there is absolutely no need to panic regarding fuel availability in the country. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas assured citizens that India has sufficient oil reserves and urged people not to believe rumors circulating about disruptions in the supply chain.

Keeping public needs in mind, the government stated that all necessary preventive measures have already been taken to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply across the country.

Authorities have issued clear instructions advising vehicle owners not to crowd petrol pumps or make advance bookings for LPG cylinders unnecessarily. All refineries across India are operating at full capacity, and crude oil stocks remain adequately filled. The ministry appealed to citizens to remain calm and purchase fuel only according to their actual requirements.

Despite rising global tensions and fears of conflict affecting international markets, the government emphasized that India’s energy security remains strong and no domestic shortages will be allowed.

To further ease access for consumers, the government has simplified the purchase process for 5-kg LPG cylinders. Individuals can now buy these cylinders from nearby gas agencies by presenting only an identity proof, without the need for address verification. Since the 23rd of last month, nearly 5.7 million small cylinders have been sold, benefiting tenants and people without permanent documentation.

The impact of Digital India initiatives is also visible in LPG services, with online gas booking rates reaching a record 95 percent. In a single day alone, around 5.1 million domestic LPG cylinders were delivered nationwide, highlighting the strength of India’s supply system.

The government is also encouraging citizens to reduce dependence on traditional fuels by adopting alternatives such as piped natural gas (PNG), induction stoves, and electric cooktops. Usage of PNG has witnessed significant growth, with gas supply extended to over 350,000 new households in the past month and nearly 380,000 new connection registrations recorded.

Meanwhile, the Shipping Ministry continues close monitoring of maritime trade routes to ensure uninterrupted fuel transportation despite global uncertainties. In a positive development, the LPG carrier Green Sanvi safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz carrying 46,650 metric tonnes of gas along with 25 Indian sailors onboard. Currently, 17 Indian vessels with around 460 Indian seafarers remain stationed in the western Persian Gulf region under continuous safety monitoring.

The aviation sector is also witnessing improvement, with approximately 675,000 passengers safely returning to India from affected regions since February 28. Following reports of five Indians injured in an Abu Dhabi attack, four have recovered and been discharged, while one individual continues to receive medical treatment. Indian missions abroad remain fully prepared to assist citizens and are coordinating with local authorities to ensure safety and medical care.

The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining uninterrupted fuel supply and safeguarding citizens amid evolving global circumstances.
