Mandi (Kameshwar Sharma): The Mukhyamantri Sukh Ashray Yojana is transforming the lives of orphaned and destitute children across Himachal Pradesh. The flagship welfare scheme provides financial support, education, healthcare, housing, and self-employment opportunities. The Himachal Pradesh Government launched the Mukhyamantri Sukh Ashray Yojana with the vision of “The Government is the Mother and the Government is the Father.” The initiative supports children who lost their parents at an early age. Under the scheme, every eligible “Child of the State” receives assistance until the age of 27 years.
Sundernagar Records Strong Progress Under the Scheme
The Mukhyamantri Sukh Ashray Yojana has delivered significant benefits in Sundernagar subdivision. So far, nine eligible beneficiaries have received ₹20 lakh for house construction. In addition, six beneficiaries have received ₹12 lakh as marriage assistance. Furthermore, three beneficiaries have been provided ₹6 lakh for self-employment.
Apart from financial aid, eligible children also receive educational support, vocational training, and skill development opportunities. Consequently, the scheme helps beneficiaries become self-reliant and financially secure.
Gaurav’s Success Story Inspires Others
The success of the Mukhyamantri Sukh Ashray Yojana is reflected in the life of Gaurav, a resident of Kohla village in Sundernagar.
Gaurav lost both his parents several years ago. As a result, he faced severe financial and emotional hardships. Later, an Anganwadi worker informed him about the government scheme. He then contacted the Child Development Project Office and successfully applied for assistance.
Under the scheme, Gaurav received ₹3 lakh for house construction and ₹2 lakh as marriage assistance. With this support, he built a permanent home and started a new chapter in life.
Today, Gaurav works in a private job while also managing agricultural activities. Therefore, he has become financially independent and lives with dignity.
Expressing his gratitude, Gaurav thanked Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for launching such a compassionate welfare initiative. He said the scheme gave him hope and the confidence to build a secure future.
Financial Assistance Reaches More Beneficiaries
According to Child Development Project Officer Poonam Chauhan, the Mukhyamantri Sukh Ashray Yojana currently benefits children between the ages of 0 and 27 years.
Officials have identified 40 orphaned children in the Sundernagar project area. Each child receives a monthly pocket allowance of ₹4,000.

- Four children are receiving higher education support.
- Four beneficiaries are undergoing vocational training.
- Three beneficiaries received self-employment assistance worth ₹6 lakh.
- Six beneficiaries received ₹12 lakh in marriage grants.

Overall, the government has distributed ₹38 lakh under the self-employment, marriage assistance, and housing components of the scheme.
