Mega Mock Exercise to Test Disaster Preparedness in Shimla

Mega Mock Exercise Scheduled in Shimla on June 15

Shimla (Kameshwar Sharma): Shimla district will conduct a Mega Mock Exercise on June 15, 2026, to evaluate disaster management preparedness and emergency response capabilities.

The exercise will simulate situations such as cloudbursts, forest fires, and earthquakes. Moreover, authorities will use the drill to test coordination among various departments and emergency agencies.

Officials discussed preparations during a district-level meeting chaired by Oshin Sharma.

Objectives of the Mega Mock Exercise

These exercises will help officials assess preparedness for multiple disaster scenarios.

Tabletop Exercise Scheduled Before Main Drill

Before the Mega Mock Exercise, authorities will conduct a tabletop exercise on June 12.

This preliminary exercise will allow departments to review response plans and identify any operational gaps. Consequently, officials can make necessary improvements before the full-scale drill. The tabletop exercise will also improve communication among participating agencies.

Observers to Monitor Disaster Response Activities

Officials have appointed observers at different levels to monitor the Mega Mock Exercise.

According to the administration, an SHO-level officer will serve as an observer at the sub-divisional level. Furthermore, CISF personnel will act as field observers in urban areas. In addition, Army observers will monitor activities at the Emergency Operations Center.

Authorities also confirmed that a team from the National Disaster Management Authority will visit urban areas during the exercise.

SDMs Directed to Activate Response Teams
