Dharamshala (Kameshwar Sharma): The Mathematics and Economics departments of the Himachal Pradesh University Regional Centre, Dharamshala, jointly organized a two-day Mathematics and Economics National Conference under the PM-USHA scheme. The conference focused on the theme, “Interdisciplinary Mathematics and Economics: Applications and Challenges.”
The event brought together academicians, researchers, and students from across India to discuss the growing relationship between mathematics and economics and their practical applications in addressing modern challenges.
DIG Soumya Sambashivan Attends as Chief Guest
Soumya Sambashivan attended the inaugural session as the chief guest. During her address, she shared valuable insights on both mathematics and economics and highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary learning in today’s rapidly evolving world.
Meanwhile, the conference witnessed the participation of university officials, faculty members, research scholars, and students.
Director Welcomes Participants and Dignitaries
The conference was held under the guidance of Prof. Kuldeep Kumar Atri, who also served as the Conference Director. He welcomed the chief guest, distinguished speakers, participants, and research scholars.
Furthermore, the organizing team included Conference Advisor Prof. D.P. Verma, Convener Dr. Tilak Raj Sharma, Co-Conveners Dr. Vijayta Pathania and Dr. Ram Ratan, along with Organizing Secretaries Dr. Shweta Pathania and Dr. Kanchan Bala.
The program began with the worship of Goddess Saraswati and the singing of the Himachal Pradesh University anthem. Subsequently, Dr. Tilak Raj Sharma presented a detailed report on the conference.

Dr. Sharma informed attendees that nearly 350 participants registered for the conference. In addition, 127 participants submitted research papers for presentation.
Moreover, around 220 students from various colleges and universities in India and abroad participated in the event. The strong turnout reflected growing academic interest in interdisciplinary research involving mathematics and economics.

The conference featured Prof. Ashwani Kumar Nanda as the keynote speaker.
During his presentation, Prof. Nanda explained how mathematical models help economists analyze financial markets, forecast economic trends, manage risks, and understand the digital economy. Furthermore, he discussed the growing role of machine learning and big data analytics in economic research.
He emphasized that an interdisciplinary approach has become essential for solving complex economic challenges in the modern era.
