Mandi (Kameshwar Sharma): A severe traffic jam was reported on the Chhandikar-Tanoh road in Mandi district today, bringing vehicular movement to a complete standstill and causing major inconvenience to commuters.
The situation worsened after the closure of the Sunni-Tattapani road, which had already diverted heavy traffic onto this alternate route. However, the Chhandikar-Tanoh road has now also come under serious stress due to infrastructure failure.
According to reports, a large portion of the road caved in suddenly, leading to complete disruption of traffic. Vehicles have been stranded for over an hour, with officials estimating that the route may remain blocked for the next three to four hours. The narrow stretch has also made it extremely difficult for even two-wheelers to pass safely.
With the Salapad-Tattapani main road already closed, this alternate route had been bearing excessive traffic load, further worsening the situation. Eyewitnesses reported that the road collapsed while a dumper vehicle was passing through the area, narrowly avoiding a major accident.
The affected stretch has now partially sunk, making it highly risky for all types of vehicles to pass. Locals and commuters have expressed strong anger over the situation, demanding immediate intervention from the administration and better road management.
Authorities are expected to assess the damage and initiate repair work, but restoration is likely to take time due to the severity of the collapse.
