Amritsar (Rajesh Sandhu): The Maharaja Ranjit Singh Death Anniversary was observed with devotion and respect at the Sikh Heritage Memorial Palace located in Ram Bagh (Company Bagh), Amritsar. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) organized a special Gurmat programme to pay tribute to the legendary Sikh ruler.
A large number of devotees, Sikh scholars, and SGPC officials attended the event. Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, also participated and paid floral tribute to Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj Pays Tribute
During his address, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj congratulated the Sangat for preserving Sikh history through such events. He said the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Death Anniversary reminds every Sikh of the ruler’s unwavering faith in the Guru, humility, and commitment to justice.
He explained that Maharaja Ranjit Singh established a powerful Khalsa Empire where people of every religion and community received equal rights and respect. Moreover, he said people lived without fear because the administration delivered justice fairly.
Call to Preserve Sikh Heritage
Furthermore, Giani Gargaj described Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s historic palace and Ram Bagh in Amritsar as priceless Sikh heritage sites.
He recalled that SGPC started commemorating the ruler’s legacy at this historic location last year. This year, the committee continued the tradition with support from various Sikh organizations.
Additionally, he appealed to devotees, especially young people, to visit the historic palace and learn about their rich heritage.
Appeal to Develop the Historic Palace
Giani Gargaj also stressed the need to preserve the palace properly. He urged authorities to stop activities that do not match the site’s historical significance.
Furthermore, he said the palace should be developed exclusively as a heritage destination. According to him, preserving such landmarks will help future generations understand Sikh history and Punjab’s glorious past.
He also emphasized that Maharaja Ranjit Singh belonged not only to the Sikh community but to the entire Punjab and Punjabi heritage.
Gurbani Kirtan and Historical Presentations
Meanwhile, the religious programme featured Gurbani Kirtan by the Hazoori Ragi Jathas of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib.
In addition, Dhadi Jathas led by Bhai Gurbhej Singh Chawinda, Bhai Satnam Singh Bhalowali, Bhai Gurjinder Singh Rahi, and Bhai Malkit Singh Varpal presented inspiring accounts from Sikh history.
Rajinder Singh Marwah, Advocate Simranjit Singh, and Head Pracharak Bhai Sarabjit Singh Dhotian also addressed the gathering.
SGPC Officials Attend the Ceremony
Several SGPC officials attended the programme, including Additional Secretary Bijay Singh, Joint Secretary Gurmeet Singh Muktsari, Sri Darbar Sahib Manager Major Singh, Rajinder Singh Ruby, and many members of the Sangat.
The Maharaja Ranjit Singh Death Anniversary programme concluded with prayers and a renewed commitment to preserve Sikh history and heritage.
