Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee Reconstitutes Zone Core Committee in Amritsar, Raises Farmers’ Compensation Demands

Farmers’ Body Reorganizes Committee, Seeks Crop Compensation

Amid ongoing organizational elections, the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee Punjab held a zonal delegate session in Zone Baba Budha Sahib after completing village-level election processes. The meeting took place at village Abdal near Kathunangal under the leadership of District President Ranjit Singh Kaler Bala, where the Zone Core Committee was reconstituted through unanimous approval of delegates.

During the session, delegates participated actively and elected a 13-member Zone Core Committee by consensus. Gurbej Singh Jhande was elected President, while Gurdev Singh Mugosohi was appointed Secretary. Other committee members include Kabal Singh Varyam Nangal, Jangbahadur Singh Alkre, Tek Singh Jhande, Kulbir Singh Abdal, Kuldeep Singh Chachowali, Hardeep Singh Bhangali, Sarjeet Singh Talwandi, Rapinder Kaur Abdal, and Kashmir Kaur Varyam Nangal among others.

Addressing the gathering, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher criticized government policies, alleging they were anti-farmer and anti-worker. He claimed that employment opportunities under the MGNREGA scheme were being reduced while additional financial burdens were being shifted onto states.

Pandher also expressed concerns over proposed trade agreements between India and the United States, stating they could negatively impact farmers, agricultural laborers, and small traders. He warned that such policies might weaken India’s agricultural economy and worsen financial conditions for rural communities.

The leaders further demanded the withdrawal of proposed laws including the Electricity Amendment Bill 2025, Seed Bill, labour codes, and other policies affecting farmers and workers. They also highlighted losses caused by recent unseasonal rains, storms, and hailstorms across Punjab, which severely damaged wheat crops, vegetables, and fodder.

The organization passed a resolution demanding compensation of ₹70,000 per acre for affected farmers and immediate crop damage assessments (girdawari). They also urged the Punjab Government to release compensation worth ₹3.77 crore for losses allegedly caused by theft of tractors and equipment during the ongoing farmers’ protest at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders.

Leaders appealed to the government to ensure proper arrangements in mandis as the wheat harvesting season has begun, so farmers do not face inconvenience during procurement.
