Karsog (Kameshwar Sharma): The Karsog Hailstorm Crop Damage has created serious problems for farmers in the Karsog Assembly constituency of Mandi district after heavy hailstorms and unseasonal rain damaged standing crops.
Farmers in several villages reported severe losses to pea, apple, and cauliflower crops. As a result, many growers now fear a major financial crisis during the harvesting season.
Local farmer Hem Raj Sharma said the changing weather has badly affected farmers this year. He explained that the region had never witnessed such heavy rain and hailstorms during May in previous years.
Moreover, he said continuous bad weather destroyed crops and reduced hopes of a profitable farming season.
Pea Prices Likely to Fall After Crop Damage
Hem Raj Sharma stated that farmers may now receive only Rs 10 to Rs 15 per kilogram for peas after the hailstorm damage.
According to him, farmers may struggle even to recover their production costs. He also said the hailstorm badly affected both pea and apple crops across the area.
Furthermore, he explained that growers had invested heavily in seeds, fertilizers, labor, and irrigation before the weather destroyed the crops.
Therefore, the Karsog Hailstorm Crop Damage has increased financial pressure on farming families.
Apple Flowering Stage Also Suffered Major Damage
Another farmer, Manoj, said the weather turned worse during the apple flowering stage.
According to him, the poor weather conditions caused heavy losses to orchard owners and vegetable growers alike.
He stated that peas, cauliflower, and apple crops all suffered damage because of the hailstorm and continuous rainfall.
Additionally, Manoj explained that farmers in the region usually earn between Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 2 lakh every year from farming activities.
However, he now fears that even earning Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 this season may become difficult.
Farmers Say Hard Work Went in Vain
Farmers said they spent months preparing and protecting their crops before the hailstorm struck the area.
They explained that they often stay in fields day and night to protect crops from wild animals such as pigs and peacocks.
However, natural disasters destroyed their hard work within a short period.
Moreover, farmers claimed that recovering the money invested in cultivation now appears nearly impossible because of the extensive crop losses caused by the Karsog Hailstorm Crop Damage.
Farmers Demand Government Relief and Compensation
After the large-scale losses, affected farmers have appealed to the government for immediate relief and compensation.
They requested financial assistance to recover from the damage and continue farming activities in the coming season.
Additionally, local farmers urged authorities to conduct a proper damage assessment in affected villages of Karsog.
Officials have not yet announced compensation details, but farmers continue to demand urgent support.
