Intermittent Fasting May Reduce Heart Attack Risk, Says Dr Archita Mahajan

Intermittent Fasting May Lower Heart Attack Risk

Dr Mahajan, who holds a Master’s degree in Food Nutrition and Dietetics and is also a homeopathic pharmacist and trained yoga teacher, has been nominated for the Padma Bhushan National Award. She has also been honored by the Punjab and Himachal Pradesh governments for her contributions in the health sector.

According to her, intermittent fasting—a dietary approach widely known for its weight loss benefits—may also play a crucial role in improving heart health. Recent research indicates that this eating pattern can help prevent the formation of dangerous blood clots, which are one of the leading causes of heart attacks.

She explained that during intermittent fasting, the body enters a metabolic state that boosts the production of beneficial molecules. These molecules support blood vessel health and help prevent platelet aggregation, thereby reducing the risk of clot formation.

“Since blood clots are a major contributor to heart attacks, intermittent fasting could serve as a natural method to lower cardiovascular risks,” she said.

Dr Mahajan further noted that intermittent fasting may also help reduce inflammation, lower cholesterol levels, and improve overall cardiovascular health. These combined benefits make it an appealing option for individuals aiming to maintain long-term heart health.

However, she emphasized that more research is still needed to fully understand its long-term effects. Early findings, though, are promising and suggest that intermittent fasting could be a powerful tool not only for weight management but also for improving blood circulation and reducing the risk of heart-related complications.
