India’s First 8-Lane Cable-Stayed Bridge Over Narmada Completed in Record 34 Months

India’s First 8-Lane Narmada Bridge Built in 34 Months

In a major milestone for India’s infrastructure development, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has completed the country’s first 8-lane cable-stayed bridge over the Narmada River in Bharuch in a record time of just 34 months.

Constructed as a key component of the Vadodara–Mumbai Expressway, the bridge represents a significant engineering achievement and highlights India’s growing technological capabilities in large-scale infrastructure projects.

The massive structure falls under Package-1 of the Vadodara–Mumbai section and stretches approximately 2.92 kilometres in length. The project aims to ensure seamless connectivity between Gujarat and Maharashtra while significantly reducing travel time for commuters and commercial transport.

Designed using advanced engineering techniques, the bridge features an aerodynamic structure capable of handling heavy vehicular loads as well as strong winds and challenging environmental conditions. Experts believe the modern design enhances both safety and durability.

According to infrastructure specialists, the new bridge is expected to improve logistics efficiency and strengthen regional connectivity, ultimately boosting industrial growth and economic activity across western India.

The project is also being seen as a symbol of India’s rapid infrastructure expansion and commitment to building world-class transportation networks under national highway modernization initiatives.
