Rohit Thakur Inaugurates Library, Boosts Education in HP

Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur said the state has achieved remarkable progress in education since Independence, with literacy rising from just 7 percent in 1947 to 99.30 percent today, calling it a matter of pride for the hill state.

The minister was addressing a gathering after inaugurating a newly constructed library at Government Senior Secondary School, Sarog, in the Theog Assembly constituency. MLA Kuldeep Singh Rathore was also present on the occasion.

Modern Library Dedicated to Public

Rohit Thakur stated that the modern library has been dedicated to students as well as the general public. Despite being located in a rural area, the facility has been developed with modern infrastructure and should be utilized by every section of society.

He emphasized that the state government continues to prioritize education despite financial challenges, allocating nearly ₹9,666 crore, around 18 percent of the total state budget, to the education sector to ensure quality learning opportunities for children.

Four CBSE Schools for Theog Region

The minister announced that out of 151 CBSE schools approved in the state, four have been allotted to the Theog region — located in Theog, Kumarsain, Matiana, and Sainj. He also announced the introduction of the Commerce stream at Government Senior Secondary School, Sarog.

Vocational Horticulture Education

Highlighting future educational reforms, Rohit Thakur said horticulture will be introduced as a vocational subject in Classes 11 and 12, with greater focus on research and innovation to align education with local economic needs.

Power Infrastructure Strengthened

The minister informed that both circuits of the 66 KV Pragatinagar–Hulli double circuit transmission line were successfully commissioned on March 27, 2026, at a cost of ₹12.33 crore. The project will improve electricity distribution, reduce load pressure on existing lines, and enhance voltage quality and supply reliability in the region.

Foundation Stone for Staff Quarters

During his visit to Kotkhai, the minister laid the foundation stone for Type-II staff quarters to be constructed by the Public Works Department at a cost of ₹2 crore.

Focus on Rural Development and Education Access

He also attended a farmers’ seminar organized under the Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA), interacting with orchardists and officials from agriculture and allied departments.

Rohit Thakur stated that the upcoming Kendriya Vidyalaya in Kotkhai will provide modern and quality education to local students, calling it a significant achievement for rural education development.

He added that during the current government’s three-year tenure, development projects worth ₹550 crore related to roads and buildings have been approved in the Jubbal-Nawar-Kotkhai region. A trauma centre has also been proposed in Kotkhai, while new diagnostic facilities including X-ray, ultrasound, and dental equipment have been installed at the Adarsh Health Institution.

The minister also inspected the under-construction BDO office building and directed officials to ensure timely completion of the project.
