Dispute Erupts Over Sanjauli Gurdwara Elections, Probe Demanded

Shimla Gurdwara Election Row, Sikh Groups Demand Probe

Shimla: A dispute has intensified between two Sikh groups over the elections of the Gurdwara Committee in Sanjauli, Shimla, raising concerns among the local Sangat.

Members of the acting committee, during a press conference, alleged that elections at the Sanjauli Gurdwara are not being conducted as per rules. They claimed that multiple written complaints have been submitted to the SDM, DC, and SP Shimla, but no action has been taken so far, allegedly due to political pressure.

The representatives stated that the matter has now been taken to the Cooperative Society and the High Court to ensure a fair investigation and justice.

They further alleged misuse of Gurdwara funds by the previous committee. According to them, existing CCTV cameras were removed and replaced unnecessarily, and new tiles were installed over marble flooring, leading to avoidable expenditure.

Members of the Sangat expressed concern that Gurdwara funds should be used for the welfare of needy people, but instead, they were allegedly diverted to other works in violation of rules.

The acting committee claimed that although fair elections were promised, some individuals within the Sanjauli Sangat are opposing the process and acting arbitrarily.

They also alleged that for the past six years, the Sangat has not been allowed to freely participate in Gurdwara affairs, with the committee functioning independently. As per rules, elections and general house meetings should be held every two years, but neither has taken place.

Reacting strongly to the situation, Sikh representative Simar Singh demanded a fair election process and a thorough investigation into the entire matter.
