Dharamshala: The historic Dhumma Shah Fair continued with उत्साह on its second day as a traditional wrestling competition (dangal) was inaugurated with rituals at Bharari Temple.
Mayor of Dharamshala Neenu Sharma attended the event as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the competition. Addressing the gathering, she emphasized the importance of preserving the traditional essence of such fairs so that the younger generation remains connected to their cultural roots and heritage.
She highlighted that the Dhumma Shah Fair is an ancient and significant event deeply rooted in public faith and tradition. She further added that wrestling, as a sport, has brought India recognition at the international level, and organizing dangal competitions at such fairs helps promote the sport while keeping traditions alive.
Former Dharamshala Mayor Devender Jaggi, who attended as a special guest, encouraged youth participation in sports, stating that physical activities play a crucial role in maintaining good health. He appreciated the growing interest of children in wrestling and expressed hope that local talent will rise to higher levels in the future.
Jaggi also thanked the Himachal Pradesh Government for promoting sports infrastructure. He informed that ₹3 crore has been allocated for a local stadium and additional budget provisions have been made for building hostels for youth. Furthermore, ₹2 crore has been sanctioned to promote shooting sports at the college level.
Earlier, fair officer and SDM Mohit Ratna welcomed the chief guest and provided details about the आयोजन. He stated that active public participation is being ensured for the successful conduct of the fair.
The event witnessed impressive performances by male and female wrestlers from across Himachal Pradesh, captivating the audience. Several dignitaries, including Deputy Mayor Tejinder Kaur and other officials, were also present on the occasion.
