Barnala: The Dhanaula Nagar Council President post has been officially handed to Dharminder Singh Dhanna, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor elected from Ward No. 12. The announcement took place in the presence of Sangrur MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Barnala Mayor Hasan Bhardwaj, and several senior party leaders.
Soon after the announcement, party leaders congratulated Dhanna by offering sweets and wishing him success in his new role. Workers and supporters also celebrated the appointment with enthusiasm.
AAP Holds Majority in Dhanaula Nagar Council
The Dhanaula Nagar Council consists of 13 wards. During the municipal elections, AAP won eight seats, while five Independent candidates secured victories.
Notably, no candidate from the Congress, BJP, or Shiromani Akali Dal won a seat in the council. This result gave AAP a clear advantage in forming the council leadership.
Dharminder Singh Dhanna strengthened his political position after winning Ward No. 12 by nearly 547 votes. As a result, the party entrusted him with leading the municipal council.

Addressing the gathering, MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said the Punjab Government continues to invest in the development of cities and villages across the state.
According to him, the government has already released crores of rupees for development projects in Dhanaula. Moreover, he assured residents that future projects would not face a shortage of funds.
Meet Hayer also expressed confidence in Dharminder Singh Dhanna’s leadership. He said young leaders like Dhanna have the energy and commitment to meet public expectations and deliver development.

During his interaction with journalists, Meet Hayer also spoke about the political situation in Punjab.
He claimed that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s public outreach programmes have received a strong response from people. Therefore, he said opposition parties have become uncomfortable with the government’s growing public support.
He also criticised the Congress, saying its internal issues have become visible to the public. Meanwhile, he claimed the BJP still lacks a strong political base in Punjab.
Government Welfare and Local Issues Discussed
Meet Hayer highlighted several welfare initiatives of the Punjab Government. These include programmes related to education, healthcare, employment, sports promotion, anti-drug campaigns, and financial assistance for women.
In addition, he acknowledged the shortage of doctors at the Dhanaula Government Hospital. He assured residents that the issue would be addressed soon.
He also promised that matters related to Dhanaula’s cattle fairs would be resolved through the legal process.

After assuming office, Dharminder Singh Dhanna thanked the party leadership, fellow councillors, and the people of Dhanaula for their trust.
