Rohru (Kameshwar Sharma): The Bushahr Cricket Tournament Rohru celebrated a historic milestone as it completed 50 years of sports tradition in Sheelghat. Education Minister Rohit Thakur attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest and praised the contribution of sports in shaping youth development.

The event brought together players from across North India and highlighted the growing importance of sports in the region.

Sports Play a Key Role in Youth Development

Speaking at the event, Education Minister Rohit Thakur said sports play an important role in the lives of young people. He said sports improve physical fitness and also provide healthy recreation.

In addition, he noted that sports create a competitive spirit, which helps youth in their future careers and personal growth.

He appreciated the efforts of local youth clubs for organizing such a large-scale event in a hilly region like Himachal Pradesh.

Historic 50-Year Journey of Bushahr Tournament

The Bushahr Cricket Tournament Rohru has a long and rich history. It began in 1976 and has continued every year since then. Over the decades, the tournament has expanded to include cricket, kabaddi, and volleyball competitions.

Moreover, teams from different states of North India participate in the tournament every year, making it a major regional sports event.

This year’s edition marked the completion of 50 successful years, which organizers described as a proud milestone.

Government Focus on Sports and Anti-Drug Campaign

Rohit Thakur said the Himachal Pradesh government is actively working to promote sports and reduce drug addiction among youth.

At the same time, he emphasized that quality education remains a top priority for the state government.

He highlighted ongoing development projects, including a ₹17 crore teacher training center near Dakead village in Jubbal. He said the project will strengthen teacher training and improve education quality in the long term.

Key Educational and Development Initiatives

The minister also spoke about several ongoing education projects. He said a Central School in Kotkhai has already started functioning after all formalities were completed.

Furthermore, teacher recruitment processes have begun to strengthen the institution.

The government has also sanctioned ₹30 crore for the development of the school infrastructure.

He added that efforts are being made to complete all projects within a fixed timeline.

Focus on Apple Growers and Economy

During the event, Rohit Thakur also discussed horticulture and said apples remain the backbone of the state’s economy.

In addition, he said representatives from apple-producing states like Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand will soon meet the central government to discuss farmer welfare and market protection.

He stressed the need to safeguard the interests of apple growers in Himachal Pradesh.

Financial Support and Event Highlights

The minister announced a ₹75,000 grant for the local youth club organizing the tournament.

Meanwhile, he also honored players and individuals who have contributed to the tournament for the past 50 years.

The final match saw Fagu team emerge as winners, while Nankhari team finished as runners-up. Winners received ₹3 lakh, and runners-up received ₹1.5 lakh in prize money.

Strong Participation and Local Support

The event witnessed participation from several political leaders, Panchayati Raj representatives, and government officials.

Finally, organizers thanked the government and local administration for supporting the historic tournament.
