Amritsar (Simran Santosh Rajput): The Punjab government has launched a major development initiative worth ₹17.72 crore for the expansion and beautification of the famous Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal in Amritsar which Big Boost for Valmiki Tirath.
Rajya Sabha MP and environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewal, Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO, and Advisory Board Chairman Bal Jogi Praghat Nath jointly inaugurated the development works.
Punjab Government Begins Mega Shrine Upgrade
Speaking during the inauguration, Balbir Singh Seechewal said the government would ensure world-class development at the sacred religious site.
He also urged people to follow the teachings of Bhagwan Valmiki based on love, sacrifice, and humanity.
Furthermore, he described the Ramayana as an eternal guide for truth and moral values.
Big Boost for Valmiki Tirath: ₹17.72 Crore Development Plan Announced
Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO said the Punjab government would spend ₹17.72 crore on multiple development works at the shrine complex.
Officials will use around ₹2.8 crore for temple painting, polishing, pillar repairs, and sandstone work.
In addition, authorities will spend ₹3.74 crore on cleaning and restoring the holy sarovar. The project includes sludge removal, clean sand filling, and beautification work.
Better Facilities for Devotees
The government also plans to improve facilities for devotees visiting the shrine.
Authorities will repair stone structures in the congregation hall, langar hall, sarai, and panorama hall at a cost of ₹2.42 crore.
Moreover, the government will spend ₹1.74 crore on new furniture, air conditioners, and upgraded arrangements for pilgrims staying at the sarai.
The project also includes bathroom repairs, fire safety systems, geysers, and expansion of the sewage treatment plant.
Preparations for Valmiki Pragat Diwas 2026
Harbhajan Singh ETO announced that the Punjab government would celebrate Bhagwan Valmiki Pragat Diwas on a grand scale in October 2026.
He said devotees from India and abroad are expected to attend the celebrations.
Therefore, authorities aim to complete all major development works before the event.
Shrine Board Promises Dedicated Service
Bal Jogi Praghat Nath thanked the Punjab government for entrusting him with the responsibility.
He promised to work sincerely for the beautification and better management of the sacred site.
He also assured devotees that authorities would provide improved facilities and services at the shrine.
